Breast Implant Replacement

Whether you're experiencing complications, changing your size, or simply ready for a change — Dr. Cassileth specializes in getting it right.

Breast Implant Replacement

Overview

Breast implants are not lifetime devices. Over time, they may rupture, shift, harden, or simply no longer reflect what you want. Some women develop capsular contracture. Others experience implant illness. And many just want a different look than they did 10 or 20 years ago.

Dr. Cassileth performs breast implant revision for all of these reasons — and more. She corrects complications from prior surgeries (including those performed elsewhere), addresses implant-related health concerns, and helps women transition to a new size, type, or shape.

Who it's for

The right candidate.

  • Women with aging implants that need replacement
  • Patients experiencing capsular contracture, rupture, or rippling
  • Women who want to change implant size or type
  • Patients concerned about breast implant illness (BII)
  • Women whose implants have shifted or become asymmetric

Technique

How it's done.

High-volume revision practice. Dr. Cassileth sees implant complications daily. She knows what can go wrong — and how to fix it.

Capsular contracture expertise. Our approach to capsular contracture has a 95% success rate. We address the capsule, not just the implant.

Breast implant illness taken seriously. Whether or not BII is formally recognized, your symptoms are real. Dr. Cassileth listens, evaluates, and offers options — including explant with or without replacement.

What to expect

From consultation to recovery.

Before Surgery

  1. Consultation — Review your implant history, current concerns, and goals. Imaging may be ordered to assess implant integrity.
  2. Decision — Together, decide whether to replace, resize, change type, or remove.
  3. Pre-op — Standard preparation with lab work and instructions.

During Surgery

  1. Implant removal — Existing implants (and capsule, if needed) are removed.
  2. Replacement or adjustment — New implants placed, or pocket adjusted for better positioning. Fat grafting may be added to improve contour.

After Surgery

  1. Recovery — Most patients return to normal activity within 1–2 weeks.
  2. Follow-up — Results are evaluated and any concerns addressed.

Implant revision for complications (rupture, contracture) may be partially covered. Cosmetic revisions are typically out-of-pocket. Our team will help determine your coverage.
