Kybella®

IMPROVE YOUR CHIN PROFILE IN LOS ANGELES

Kybella® is the first injectable, non-surgical treatment approved by the FDA to treat fat deposits on the neck, which cause a look of fullness known as a “double chin.” The fat cells in this submental area tend to be stubborn, resisting diet and exercise strategies that are effective at slimming down other areas of the body. With this in mind, Kybella® is a nonsurgical alternative to liposuction that allows for focused fat reduction to create a more sculpted profile.

Kybella® is made from deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring substance that the body uses to help with digestion. Deoxycholic acid breaks down fat cells in the food we eat. The body then absorbs these cells and processes them into waste. When injected by a trained provider into the submental area, deoxycholic acid targets the large, clustered-together fat cells to create a sculpted, better-defined chin. Because it works so well to break down cells, Kybella® should be administered only by specially trained, trusted, and experienced injectors.

What Do Kybella® Treatments Entail?

A Kybella® treatment session consists of a series of small injections made below the chin. Your injector will use a template to guide the process for even distribution of deoxycholic acid, maximizing both safety and results.

Double chin injections are often likened to someone quickly pinching the skin—a very tolerable and temporary sensation. Any post-treatment swelling and mild redness will diminish in 24 to 48 hours. Minor bruising may also occur in the Kybella® injection area. This should resolve after seven to 10 days. During this time, the deoxycholic acid will begin its work. Breaking down and processing fat takes time, so initial results can take weeks to develop.

Many patients achieve their goals after one or two injection sessions, though some may require more visits to get a truly sculpted chin. After achieving your desired results, you won’t need to come in for further maintenance treatments. This is because the fat cells physically break down with Kybella®—unlike diet and exercise, which cause unwanted fat cells to shrink but remain in place.

What Other Treatments Are Available?

Prior to Kybella®, surgery was the only treatment option for a double chin. Surgical reduction via liposuction is still an effective choice, especially for people who want to see a more dramatic reduction more quickly.

FaceTite® uses radiofrequency energy to create collagen for a tightening effect, working with surgical fat reduction to enhance the contouring results. Other nonsurgical options for addressing a look of submental fullness include CoolSculpting® to freeze fat cells and Ultherapy to tighten lax skin. Double chins are caused by fat, but loose skin can also cause the area below the chin to appear flabby or poorly defined.

The solution for each patient—whether a single non-surgical treatment or a combination of surgical and minimally invasive strategies—will depend on the individual. We work with you from the initial consultation to develop a plan that focuses on results that best suit your unique face and profile.
