Rejuvenate Your Appearance With Eyelid Lift Surgery In Los Angeles

Eyes are often our most expressive and noticeable facial feature, but they can also be the first to show visible signs of aging. Eyelid skin is delicate. It can lose elasticity with age while the muscles around the eyes can weaken—causing upper lids to droop and lower lids to become puffy.1 Blepharoplasty is a plastic surgery to lift sagging upper eyelids or correct baggy skin under the eyes. Cosmetic eyelid surgery can restore a youthful and bright-eyed look.

Benefits of Blepharoplasty

Eyelid surgery at our Beverly Hills practice can:

  • Smooth away wrinkles around the eyes
  • Remove excess fat and puffiness below the lower eyelid
  • Remove excess skin above the eye to correct droopy eyelids
  • Improve the look of dark circles
  • Provide a more youthful appearance

Types of Eyelid Surgery

Upper Eyelid Surgery

Upper blepharoplasty focuses on the area above the eyes. Your surgeon will remove excess skin and tighten the upper eye area using an incision that is hidden in the natural upper eyelid crease. The final result looks natural and youthful.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

Lower blepharoplasty addresses the skin below the eyes, which can become overly wrinkled or baggy as a result of the aging process. To correct this, your surgeon will redistribute the fat from the “eye bag” area, using an incision that is hidden inside the lower eyelid (a transconjunctival approach). If excess skin is also present, an incision can be created at the lash line to remove the skin and further tighten the lower lid. This eyelid surgery creates a smoother, more youthful contour and a well-rested, revitalized look.

What to Expect From Your Eyelid Surgery

Preparing for Your Blepharoplasty

During your consultation appointment, your surgeon will examine your eye area, review your medical history, and discuss your aesthetic goals. If eye rejuvenation surgery is right for you, she will work with you to develop a treatment plan and advise you of any pre-surgical guidelines.

Your Blepharoplasty Procedure

Blepharoplasty surgery is an outpatient procedure that may be performed with local anesthesia and sedation, but is usually done with general anesthesia. Your surgeon will create incisions and proceed to remove excess fat or skin, as well as reposition the underlying fat and tissue if needed, before using sutures to close the incisions.

Recovery After Blepharoplasty

After eyelid surgery, you may be advised to keep your head elevated and gently apply ice packs or cold compresses during the first several days of recovery. Eye drops may also be recommended to help keep your eyes lubricated during the healing process. Most patients resume day-to-day activities approximately one week after surgery.

Blepharoplasty Results

Results are immediate, although they may be obscured by mild swelling during the first few days. Your surgical team will advise you on proper skin care and sun protection to maintain your results. If you are concerned with hyperpigmentation or discoloration around the eyes, your surgeon may also recommend laser resurfacing treatments.

Frequently Asked Questions About Blepharoplasty

The incisions for blepharoplasty will be hidden within the natural creases of the eyes, so they are easily camouflaged and rarely noticeable.

Blepharoplasty is designed to correct overly hooded eyes, and saggy or puffy eyes. We are careful to preserve your natural eye shape, including distinct ethnic aspects, to ensure that you look alert and rejuvenated without altering the fundamental characteristics that contribute to your unique look and identity.

In most cases, blepharoplasty is considered a cosmetic procedure. However, some patients may have such severe drooping of the upper lids that it obscures vision (a condition called ptosis). In these cases, an ophthalmologist may perform a “visual field test” to determine that the procedure is medically necessary and insurance may provide coverage.

Yes, patients often combine blepharoplasty with a brow lift or facelift in order to achieve full facial rejuvenation.
