Create A More Proportional Look With Techniques Such As Ear Pinning In Los Angeles
Ear surgery can change the size, shape, and position of the ear to provide a more refined appearance that is in balance with the rest of your features. Otoplasty, also known as ear pinning, can address ears that are disproportionately large or protruding. A subtle change in ear shape or projection can make a significant impact on a patient’s overall appearance and well-being. At Cassileth Plastic Surgery in Beverly Hills, we are highly experienced in a variety of cosmetic and reconstructive ear procedures.

Benefits Of Reconstructive And Cosmetic Ear Surgery
Improve The Shape, Projection Or Size Of Your Ears
Do you put effort into hiding your ears with different hairstyles or hats? Otoplasty provides a permanent solution for ears that are out of proportion with the rest of your face. Patients with prominent ears often feel self-conscious about how much their ears project out from their head. Ear pinning surgery removes the immediate focus from one’s ear projection and back to the face and other features.
Rejuvenate Your Earlobes
As we age, our skin loses elasticity. Earlobes are no exception and may become wrinkled or saggy over time. A rejuvenation-focused variation of otoplasty can correct the appearance of sagging, aged earlobes and restore them to a more natural, youthful look.
Correct Ear Asymmetry Or Abnormalities
Some patients have ears that differ from each other due to injury or a congenital ear deformity. Ear surgery can correct asymmetry to restore balance. Reconstructive ear surgery can be performed to create or replace sections of an ear that may be missing or injured.
Increase Self-Esteem
Ears frame the face, and ears that are overly large or prominent can lead to a lack of self-confidence. Studies find that patients who undergo ear surgery with a qualified plastic surgeon experience a significant improvement in their quality of life due to relief from the psychological stress of disproportionate ears.1
What To Expect
Preparing For Ear Surgery
During your consultation appointment at our Beverly Hills office your surgeon will discuss your concerns and goals and answer any questions you have about ear surgery. They will also examine your ears and review your medical history. If you are a candidate for ear surgery, you will be given detailed preoperative instructions.
Your Otoplasty Procedure
Ear surgery is an outpatient procedure that may be performed under sedation or with a local anesthetic. Your surgeon will make a small incision behind the ear. They will then remove excess skin and ear cartilage, reshaping the surrounding tissue to achieve a more proportionate ear size and shape. This incision is closed with strong internal sutures to ensure lasting results. The outer incision line is hidden behind the ear, making the entire surgery extremely discrete and imperceptible to others.
Otoplasty Surgery Recovery
Recovery time after otoplasty is minimal but will vary depending on the details of your procedure. You will need to avoid contact sports and strenuous activity for at least one week. You may be given a special headband to wear over your ears during the healing process. We will schedule a follow-up appointment to monitor your progress and results.
Who Is A Good Candidate For Ear Surgery?
Otoplasty may be right for you if you are bothered by the size, shape, or projection of your ears. Ideal candidates for adult ear surgery are people with ears that stick out noticeably or are disproportionately large compared to their head who are in overall good physical health and are non-smokers (as smoking can negatively affect healing).
Incisions for otoplasty are made in the natural crease behind the ear, so any scarring is nearly impossible to detect.
No, cosmetic ear surgery will only change the appearance of your outer ears and will not affect your hearing.
Ear surgery is often performed as a standalone procedure, but may be combined with other facial plastic surgeries such as a facelift or rhinoplasty.
